Two summers ago, a flood of joy swept the nation after the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government must recognize same-sex marriages. That year, Immigration Equality received more than 7,000 requests for legal advice! But even as we celebrated with those of us who had access to marriage equality, we fought for those who did not. We knew that until marriage was a nationally recognized right, many of us would still be left behind.
Today, the Supreme Court ensured that all same-sex couples, including binational couples, will have the same rights as everyone else. This victory feels remarkable! Immigration Equality has been working towards this moment for more than twenty years. We rejoice with all of you as we celebrate our community’s unprecedented strides towards equality.
Tomorrow, we will continue our fight with renewed resolve. There is still so much work left to do, and we need your help to do it. There are more than 80 countries where it is against the law or fundamentally dangerous to be LGBT. Immigration Equality’s mission is now, as it has always been, to ensure the equality and safety of LGBT immigrants who need our help.
Now more than ever, we need you to stand with us as we continue the fight to give our clients and our community a safe place to call home.
