Have you been watching the news lately? I have, and I’ve had enough. With the volume of anti-immigrant and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric being spewed around the presidential race, it is critical — now more than ever — that our community be heard.
To protect ourselves, we must take back the conversation. Every day, LGBTQ immigrants overcome horrific adversity to find a safe place to call home in the U.S. Those who are granted asylum see their lives transformed. But they are not the only ones who benefit from this process.
Take, for example, the inspiring story of Denise, a transgender woman who survived brutal mistreatment in Trinidad. After she found Immigration Equality at Pride, we helped her to secure asylum in the United States. And, just last week, Denise told us that she had received her green card!
Today, Denise is a home health aide, caring for sick people in need of assistance. She is also an activist in the LGBTQ community, openly sharing her story and her life in order to support others. We celebrate Denise and the selfless contributions she makes every day.
Immigrants are the lifeblood of America. This has always been the case and we cannot allow radicals and sensationalists to change this fundamental part of who we are. Help Immigration Equality to share more stories of remarkable people like Denise! Together, we can ensure that LGBTQ immigrants from around the world continue to thrive in and contribute to the American dream.
Thank you for your support.
