Doris Orton is an Asylum Paralegal at Immigration Equality. Prior to joining Immigration Equality, Doris worked as a paralegal for a small immigration law firm in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She worked with asylum seekers as well as on a variety of other immigration matters including family based petitions, adjustment of status and citizenship applications with USCIS and in immigration court. Before working in immigration matters in the U.S., she practiced law in Honduras and completed pro bono community service representing non-profit organizations and serving as a legal advisor. She also worked as a professional interpreter and as an educator and caretaker for children living with HIV/AIDS.
Doris is a graduate of UNITEC Honduras with a degree in law and as part of her education she completed a study abroad program at ULatina in Costa Rica in the International Relations program. She was born and raised in Honduras and speaks English and Spanish.
