Immigration Equality Statement on AG Sessions’ Decision in Matter of A-B-
NEW YORK, NY — Below is a statement from Immigration Equality’s Executive Director Aaron C. Morris on the Attorney General’s decision in Matter of A-B-:
“Asylum is a critical and lifesaving necessity for people fleeing persecution. This is why the right to seek asylum in the United States is guaranteed by domestic and international law. The Attorney General’s decision in Matter of A-B- will certainly make it harder for many refugees to secure the safety they deserve. However, this decision does not, nor could it, strip lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and HIV-positive people of the right to be protected. Immigration Equality will fight every day to ensure that LGBTQ and HIV-positive asylum seekers are supported and empowered.”
Immigration Equality is the nation’s leading LGBTQ immigrant rights organization. We represent and advocate for people from around the world fleeing violence, abuse, and persecution because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. Our legal team has won asylum for more than 1000 LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants while maintaining a 99% success rate.
