My name is Nathalia, and thanks to Immigration Equality, I am able to safely celebrate the International Transgender Day of Visibility today by sharing my story with you.
Every year on March 31st, we honor transgender people and raise awareness of the persecution that people like me experience around the world. In 2007, I came to the United States after years of oppression as a transgender woman in El Salvador. I was struggling when I found Immigration Equality in 2014. But once my case was accepted into their Pro Bono Asylum Program, I was able to focus on a happy, healthy, and safe future.
Earlier this month, I was granted asylum!
I will be forever grateful to the Immigration Equality team, who believed in me and helped me when I felt no one else would. Today, I look forward to studying English and, eventually, attending college. Thanks to your support, I have a life I never thought possible. I know that there are many more transgender immigrants in need of Immigration Equality’s services. Support transgender women like me with a gift to Immigration Equality today.
