U.S. immigration law is a very complicated field, especially as the law affects lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and HIV-positive individuals. We have written or co-written several important publications on these issues. Immigration Equality offers a range of materials to assist you in better understanding this area of the law.
We have authored the only manual, Winning Asylum, Withholding and CAT Cases Based on Sexual Orientation, Transgender Identity and/or HIV-Positive Status, which offers specific, detailed information on how to prepare sexual orientation-based asylum claims. This manual is an invaluable resource for asylum seekers and their lawyers alike, offering a comprehensive overview of the law, and offering sample affidavits and applications.
In conjunction with Lambda Legal, we have also prepared basic FAQ publications on LGBT Immigration Basics and HIV Immigration Basics. These introductory pamphlets provide an excellent starting point in learning the effects of U.S. immigration law on the LGBT and HIV communities.
Immigration Equality also publishes an informative Newsletter, called Status Report. The newsletters contain information about the immigration law, about advances and setbacks in LGBT and HIV rights around the globe, and news about the dynamic work of our chapters.
With the immigration law changing so rapidly, in 2004, Immigration Equality began to send out regular email Updates. The Updates focus on recent news, proposed changes in the law, and action alerts.
