For LGBTQ and HIV-positive migrants and refugees, the United States has long been a beacon of hope. Today, in a new Executive Order, the President tried to extinguish that light for people fleeing persecution in Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
A Muslim and Refugee Ban by any other name is still a Muslim and Refugee Ban. The new Order affects many LGBTQ people and families, including Immigration Equality’s clients. We will not stand for it!
The Administration’s targeted attacks on immigrants are a gross violation of due process that substantially undermine our international obligation to uphold and protect basic human rights. The new Order, like the original Muslim and Refugee Ban, will bar thousands of LGBTQ and HIV-positive people from seeking safety in the United States. Just like before, we will not allow that to happen.
The fight ahead is going to be a long one. But with your help, I know we will prevail. Join us now!
